Thomas Edison State College offers a number of scholarships to assist students in meeting their financial commitments. The College's Scholarship Program does not discriminate based on religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, marital status, or disability.

Application Period: June 1 - July 31, 2013

Requirements and Awards: You must complete all sections of the application and meet all eligibility criteria, including submitting any required documentation, to be considered for an award. Scholarship applications will only be accepted June 1 – July 31. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process. Award amounts may vary depending on the funds available and number of qualified applicants.

Deadline: Applications must be received not later than midnight, July 31, 2013.

Submission: Applications are to be submitted via the online application tool. Exceptions to this procedure may be requested by contacting the College Scholarship Committee at scholarship@tesc.edu.

Supplemental Documentation: See individual scholarships. Required supplemental documentation, if any, should be scanned and emailed to scholarship@tesc.edu or faxed to the Office of Financial Aid, 609-633-6489.

Acknowledgement and Notification: Applications will be acknowledged via e-mail. Applicants selected for a scholarship award will be notified in writing and will be required to accept the scholarship before funds will be disbursed.

Use of Funds: Scholarship funds may only be used for Thomas Edison State College credit earning options and associated tuition, fees, or books as permitted by the scholarship. Funds used for books, must be arranged through the Bursar's Office .

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Submit a completed 2013 Thomas Edison State College Scholarship Application.
  • Have applied for federal and State (NJ residents only) financial aid through the FAFSA and the Thomas Edison State College Financial Aid Application.
  • Meet all Scholarship Specific Eligibility Criteria described on any respective scholarship's page or this application.
  • Required supplemental documentation, if any, must be provided before the end of the application period.

    *  The following three criteria, GPA, minimum credits completed, and minimum percentage completed must be met by all currently enrolled applicants but may be waived for applicants to specific scholarships that permit students to apply but who are not yet enrolled in the College.

    *  For the 2013 Award Year those scholarships permitting applicants who are not yet enrolled are the Edwards, Pruitt, Active Military, Dependent Spouse/Veteran Military, and Wounded Warrior Military scholarships.
  • Have at least a 3.0 Thomas Edison State College GPA at the time of application.
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 Thomas Edison State College credits, with at least six hours being from Online or Guided Study courses.
  • Have successfully completed a minimum of 66 percent of courses attempted at Thomas Edison State College. Incompletes, withdrawals, and failed classes do not count as completed credits.

Scholarships

Submit separately any additional documentation or information required to meet eligibility criteria for those scholarships identified below with an asterisk (*).

The following scholarships are available to all enrolled students:

The following scholarships are available only to those students so indicated. Most of these scholarships require supplemental documentation to be submitted validating the applicant meets the individual scholarship requirements.
W. Cary Edwards Foundation Nursing Scholarship*
          Available only to New Jersey residents currently enrolled in or seeking enrollment to an undergraduate or graduate Nursing program at Thomas Edison State College. Please provide verification of New Jersey residency (current NJ driver’s license, Voter Registration card, or other suitable documentation. Verification of financial need will be obtained from FAFSA information and written essay.
Susan O. Friedman Endowed Scholarship
          Available only to undergraduates currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree in the Applied Science and Technology program at Thomas Edison State College.
Julia Cadiz Negrón Scholarship*
          Available only to enrolled students who reside in Latin America (Mexico, Central America, and South America) and the islands of the Caribbean.
Dr. George A. Pruitt Endowed Presidential Scholarship
         Available only to graduate degree-seeking students. *Note the exception allowed for this scholarship under the Eligibility Criteria.

Rummel Foundation Endowed Scholarship
         Available only to single mothers with dependent children. Verification of single motherhood with dependent(s) will be obtained through FAFSA.

Caroline P. Tompkins Endowed Scholarship
          Available only to current Thomas Edison State College employees. Please provide Thomas Edison State College department where assigned.
Thomas Edison State College Foundation Nursing Scholarship
          Available only to currently enrolled students in a Nursing undergraduate or graduate program in the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing with demonstrated financial need. Verification of financial need will be obtained from FAFSA information and written essay.

Military Scholarships

The group of Military Scholarships is available only to those students so indicated, either Applicant or Enrolled students. Each scholarship requires the submission of documentation to verify the military related status of the applicant and, as needed, medical documentation verifying wounds or injuries for the Wounded Warrior scholarships.

Active Military (Applicant Students Only)*
          Available only to a student serving in the active or reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces (Air Force, Army, Marines, or Navy), the U.S. Coast Guard, or the National Guard and who is a current applicant to the College at the time of scholarship application. Provide a command letter, a copy of official orders, or other type of documentation acceptable to the College verifying your military member or dependent status. The College will contact you if additional documentation is needed.
Active Military (Enrolled Students Only)*
          Available only to a student serving in the active or reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces (Air Force, Army, Marines, or Navy), the U.S. Coast Guard, or the National Guard and who is a currently enrolled student in the College at the time of scholarship application. Dependent Spouse/Veteran (Applicant Students Only)*

          Available only to a student who was wounded or injured while on duty with the active or reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces (Air Force, Army, Marines, or Navy), the U.S. Coast Guard, or the National Guard and who is a currently enrolled student in the College at the time of scholarship application. Please provide medical verification of wounds/injuries sustained by the servicemember while on active duty.

All Applicants: Please tell the Scholarship Committee how a scholarship will help you attain your educational goals and how you plan to incorporate your degree from Thomas Edison State College into your personal and professional development.

Applicants for the Edwards Scholarship: Please include in your comments your professional plans and any compelling individual factors you wish the Scholarship Committee to know. Also, please state whether or not your tuition is covered in whole or in part by any hospital or other professional organization.
